For years, the "safe sex" message has permeated our society. When it changed to "safer sex," the majority of people assumed that meant "protected sex" was even "safer" than before. In actuality, the only "safe sex" is "saved sex," i.e., saved for marriage. There are at least twenty sexually transmitted diseases which are not prevented by contraceptives (including condoms).

Instead of giving another generation the false sense of security of the "safe sex" myth, it is time to tell them the facts: The only guaranteed way of making sure you never have to deal with non-marital pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, or emotional consequences, is by abstaining from sex, and all sexual contact, until entering into a lifelong monogamous marriage with an uninfected partner.

Abstinence is the only way to STOP the STD (sexually transmitted disease) epidemic. If it is not stopped, where will our children and our grandchildren find uninfected partners? Many of the diseases that are spreading are passed from mother to child. Doesn’t the next generation have the right to be born free from disease?

Teens are also bombarded with the message that marriage does not work. Many of them do not even know what a good marriage looks like. Society’s tragedy of single-parent, cohabiting and "dysfunctional" families, combined with TV, music and the media have convinced young people that "good marriages" are a myth, or at least a thing of the past. We believe that the abstinence message may not only save their physical health, but may also give them tools they need to lay the foundation for a healthy marriage. We teach about the skills and factors involved in a healthy marriage. We teach that these skills and factors are things they CAN CONTROL, and that they need to START NOW. Our message points to the "Ideal Marriage" and encourages teens to strive for that ideal in spite of the pressures they face on a daily basis that would tell them that it does not exist.
